Raw Feeders Top Five is a new feature of Keep the Tail Wagging® that will give me a platform to share cool things I discover for my dogs. There is a ton of stuff that I want to share, but I run out of time because there are only so many days in a week, month, and year and I get easily distracted.
This week’s Tuesday Top Five includes the top five (in my opinion) dog dishes.
I'm raising four dogs that have four different eating styles. Despite the controversy surrounding raised dog dishes, I've found them to be the most beneficial for my dogs – especially given Rodrigo and Sydney's arthritis. Although they can eat their meals in a few minutes, I like that they don't have to stand in (what I see as) an awkward position to chow down on their raw dog food.
The following are the Top Five dog dishes (in my opinion) for raw fed dogs.
1 – Neater Feeder Deluxe for Large Dogs
I had an opportunity to review this dog dish and immediately fell in love with it. Rodrigo is a very messy eater, and the high sides protect our walls and floors from splattered goats milk and raw dog food. The Neater Feeder is easy to clean, comes with an area that captures water overflow for messy drinkers, and the colors blend in well in our kitchen. I've been using the Neater Feeder for more than a year and the bowls are still like new – no rust.
The Neater Feeder comes with traditional, stainless steel dog dishes or you can order a slow feeder dish to slow down your gulper.
I think I'll end up with three more for the other dogs.

2 – Extra Stainless Steel Dog Dishes
So, yes, I mentioned stainless steel dog dishes above, but this is different. Because I feed raw, I rotate dishes – some are being cleaned while others are being used. I weigh each dog's meal to keep them from being over (or under) fed, and it's easier and more accurate to weigh their meals if I use dishes that weigh the same. So I buy extra stainless steel dog dishes that are the same model and same brand and cross my fingers that they all weigh the same too.
I look for dishes that are rust-resistant and dishwasher safe. I avoid anything with a copper or ceramic look because I worry about what's used to make it and if it can flake off into my dogs' food. My dogs have three dishes each and I also have four for water. Most of the dishes came with the raised dog dishes, the extra I purchased in packs of two.

3 – Dog Feeding Mat
Rodrigo is our only messy eater, but everyone is a sloppy drinker. Why do dogs have to look away from the dish with their mouth full of water? Looking for the ideal dog feeding mat is a chore, and I've found several that have caught my eye and one that is now on my Wish List.
The My Doggy Place Dog Cat Food Feeding Mat is slip resistant, easy to clean, and comes in fun colors. At $12.99 each, I can afford four of these for my dogs.

4 – Travel Stainless Steel Pet Dishes
For folks who travel with their dogs, feeding freeze-dried (or frozen) raw along the way, there are travel stainless steel pet dishes for you to take along.
I've always known about the collapsible pet dishes – they're usually plastic, rubber, or fabric material – none of which are ideal for feeding raw dog food (in my opinion). So I've kept my eye out for stainless steel, and I found a set that is compact, stackable, and easy to clean. The set I found is leak proof and it comes with a handle so we can carry the set.
The downside for some will be that these dishes are made in China. I know that some people have an issue with buying products made in China (so many products are today).

5 – Trendy Pet Raised Dog Dish
Rodrigo eats from a Neater Feeder and the other dogs eat their raw meals from a Trendy Pet raised dog dish. I love our Trendy Pet dishes because they're custom to each dog's height and they are so stylish. We chose the black raised dishes which look great in our great room.
Trendy Pet products are on the higher end of the price point for raised dog dishes, and I will admit that I received mine for free a couple of years ago – I love each one and wouldn't mind making the investment because I've had many raised dog dishes and other than the Neater Feeder, I've been disappointed in every one.
Trendy Pet dishes are easy to clean, easy to clean beneath, and the perfect height for each dog.
