The rising prices of healthy dog treats have inspired me to begin making dog treats at home, and it's easier than I realized. This no bake recipe is perfect for pet parents who are short on time or not as handy in the kitchen. Treat your dog with healthy, organic dog treats today!
Ingredients
- 1 cup Nummy Tum Tum organic pumpkin or sweet potato puree
- 1/2 cup Kirkland organic peanut butter
- 1 cup Bob's Red Mill organic rolled oats (or Anthony's)
- 2 tbsp CocoTherapy coconut oil
- 2 tbsp local raw honey (local grocery stores, farmer's market)
- 1/2 cup Anthony's organic, shredded coconut
Equipment/Supplies
- Food processor
- Parchment or wax paper
- Baking pan
Instructions
1. Slowly melt coconut oil in a pan on the stove.
2. Line your baking pan with parchment paper (or wax paper, since this is a no bake recipe).
3. Add all ingredients (except coconut flakes) into the food processor and mix until the dough holds together.
4. Transfer the dough to a mixing bowl and, with lightly oiled hands, divide the dough into quarters. Each quarter should make eight dog treats for a total of 32. You can also make smaller (or larger) treats.
5. Roll each ball until it's smooth and place it on the parchment or wax paper.
6. Put a small amount of coconut flakes into a bowl or plate; add more as needed
7. Roll each ball in the coconut flakes until evenly coated and add to a storage container. Only prep what you can feed over five days.
8. Place the storage container in the fridge for 30 minutes.
9. Treat your dogs.
Only make what you will reasonably give to your dogs over five days. Store the rest of the dough in the freezer for future preps.
About the Peanut Butter
Many pet parents avoid peanut butter because of the toxins and sweeteners (xylitol). I use organic peanut butter because it's certified free from chemicals, such as pesticides and chemical fertilizers, plus they lack additional sweeteners.
