I finally found three CBD oil brands that were formulated for dogs, work consistently, and are improving my dogs' health. This post shares how I use CBD oil effectively with each of my dogs.

I love CBD oil and use it daily with my dogs. When CBD oil first hit the market, I mostly saw treats and although I was hopeful that they would alleviate my dogs' anxiety and arthritis symptoms – they didn't do much and that hasn't changed over the years with most brands. And while the dogs love them, I don't think CBD treats work as a replacement for CBD oil tinctures.

So, I always keep CBD oil tinctures on hand and my favorite three brands are:

Why I Give My Dogs CBD Oil

As I understand it, the endocannabinoid system is like the body's switchboard operator – the system keeps the body in balance (homeostasis) by regulating the immune system response, communication between cells, metabolism, cognitive health, and so on.

When things are out of whack, that's when we see health issues cropping up and CBD oil is beneficial for…

  • arthritis pain relief
  • brain health for aging dogs
  • gut health
  • anxiety relief
  • cancer prevention, cancer cell apoptosis
  • immune system support
  • correct deficiencies in the endocannabinoid system

Basically, I give my dogs CBD oil to keep them healthy and comfortable.

How I Give My Dogs CBD Oil

Similar to milk thistle, I believe that CBD oil is more effective when it's already in the system. And to treat serious health issues, I need to spread out the doses throughout the day. Therefore, I give my dogs a dose of CBD oil two to three times daily.

In this post, I share how I use each of the CBD oil brands that I order for my dogs.

CBD Dog Health

I was introduced to CBD Dog Health shortly after Scout was diagnosed with lymphoma. And I quickly fell in love with this brand because it works. I now order their entire line for my dogs and use their CBD products daily.

CBD Dog Health: HEAL

HEAL is great for dogs with cancer, an autoimmune disease, seizures, and more. I give this to Scout two to three times daily, allowing him to lick the oil from my hand or putting the oil on his gums using the dropper that comes with the bottle.

Scout's oncologist shared that he was the only dog that has remained in remission during the past few months and I know that it's due to his diet, supplements, and HEAL.

CBD Dog Health: CALM

CALM is great for dogs with anxiety. I give it to Rodrigo to help him relax during storms, fireworks, or other stressful times. In fact, he slept during the last storm and I was stunned because, at 11 years old, that was the first time he was “calm” during a storm. Get how I did that? Clever.

Keeping an eye on the weather, when I know there's going to be a storm, I give Rodrigo CALM two to three times a day during the stormy weather.

CBD Dog Health: EASE

EASE is great for dogs with arthritis, aches and pains, and allergies. Rodrigo enjoys this product two to three times daily (like the others) and I've noticed improved mobility since I began giving EASE to him. I've been alternating between EASE and CALM for a few months. And, to be honest, I could just put him on HEAL and he'll benefit as well.

CBD Salmon Treats for Dogs

I ordered the CBD treats on a whim and give them to Scout on his chemotherapy days. We're still remanded to the parking lot, sending our dogs into the clinic without us, so these treats have come in handy. I also think the CBD helps the chemo work better.

CannaPet CBD Oil

My veterinarian introduced me to CannaPet when I complained to her about Apollo's separation anxiety when he joined our family in 2019.

Canna-Pet CBD Oil Capsules for Dogs

I order the CannaPet Advanced CBD oil capsules and I add one capsule to the meal twice daily. I was told that the capsules last in a dog's system for a long time (up to 12 hours) and while this may be the case, I don't get 12 hours of calm with my dogs. But it's nice to know that the CBD is in their system all day.

I've been told repeatedly that CBD oil added to food isn't as effective as giving dogs CBD oil orally. Having lived through two cancer diagnoses, my goal is to keep CBD oil in my dogs' system and CannaPet allows me to do this and it assuages my worry on those days when I forget to give them oil.

Canna-Pet CBD Biscuits for Dogs

I also order CBD biscuits as a treat. The CBD Treats are great for when we're surprised by a stressful event (storm, random fireworks, roadwork nearby) that will upset the dogs. I also like to give each dog one CBD biscuit before bedtime a few nights a week.

I do prefer the CBD oil over the CBD treats because the oil works faster and my dogs get the full benefits. When CBD oil is in food, we lose some of the effectiveness as it traverses the digestive tract.

I was introduced to KING KALM a couple of years ago and I love that each box includes an oral syringe and clear dosing instructions. KING KALM is my backup CBD oil when I run out of CBD Dog Health for Rodrigo and Scout. KING KALM is the main CBD oil for Zoey because she's not a fan of essential oils (an ingredient in EASE (frankincense) and CALM (lavender).

I give Zoey CBD oil several times a week, at the end of the day, since she's so very healthy.

Unlike the other oils, I use the oral syringe that comes with their products and Zoey gets 1/2 of a syringe as a dose which she takes happily.

How Much CBD Oil Do I Give to My Dogs?

I know I shared this above, but I want to share again for the folks who are in a hurry and skip to this section.

When it comes to the proper dosage of CBD oil for each dog, I start with the recommended dosage and adjust based on each of my dogs' needs.

  • Rodrigo: EASE, two to three times daily
  • Scout: HEAL, two to three times daily
  • Zoey: King Kalm, three to four times weekly
  • Apollo: CannaPet, three to four times weekly, one capsule in the morning and evening meals

The beauty of CBD Dog Health, CannaPet, and KING KANINE is the number of useful articles they have on their perspective websites and their customer service. If you have questions about how to use their products with your dog, they can guide you.

Is it Necessary to Use Different CBD Oils for Dogs?

But, Kimberly, why do you need two different oils for your dogs?

I'm definitely going overboard here and I don't suggest that you place an order for each brand. The reason why I use products from three different brands is that I have four dogs and tailor the CBD oil to the dog.

CBD Dog Health has proven benefits from dogs with cancer and autoimmune diseases, which is why I use it with Rodrigo and Scout. As I shared above, Zoey isn't a fan of essential oils, so I order King Kalm for her. And I alternate between King Kalm and CannaPet with Apollo (depending on what I have on hand).

How to Save Money on CBD oil for Dogs

We all know that CBD oil can be expensive. It's tempting to choose the cheapest option, but you get what you pay for and this is why I stock up on my preferred CBD oils when they're on sale. I watch for sales around holidays and I save up funds to stock up on Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend.

This weekend, I'll be ordering products from all three brands to make sure that my dogs are covered for the Fourth of July and through the summer.

My CBD Oil Shopping List

When my budget can swing it, I order the following…

There are many brands on the market and, sadly, not all work the same with every dog. If you're looking for a brand, the three that I mention in this blog post have consistently worked for my dogs.
