Aspen’s owner, Jacki Wanders, is a music teacher in real life, which makes this whole story even better. What makes Aspen especially charming is that she has very specific taste in what parts of a song she wants to perform. She tends to skip right over the lower, easier notes and goes straight for the high ones, which just so happen to be the hardest parts to pull off. Considering those are exactly the notes that are supposedly capable of shattering glass, her confidence is admirable. With daily practice and such a dedicated teacher by her side, she is clearly getting stronger and more precise with every session.

They sit somewhere in size between a small budgie and a full parrot, and they come packed with personality and vocal ability. These birds are capable of chirping, whistling, actually speaking words, and even mimicking household sounds like smoke alarms or musical notes. While their speech may not be as crisp as that of an African Grey Parrot, cockatiels are incredibly quick learners and can pick up tunes and sounds with surprising speed. It is genuinely heartwarming to see the bond that Aspen and Jacki have built through music. There is something special about an animal that not only tolerates but actively participates in learning something new alongside their person.
