Police Find Dog Stolen in Italy Seven Years Ago and Reunite Him with Owner Who Cried Tears of Joy

Sara Carlotto from Cittadella in Italy thought she might never see her beloved dog again after he vanished one spring day in 2019. She last spotted him from her bedroom window while he barked nonstop in the yard. When she rushed downstairs moments later the mixed breed dog named Cartier was gone and she caught only a glimpse of a white van driving away. That sudden loss left her heartbroken yet determined to search for answers even as months turned into years.

Sara printed thousands of flyers and combed the local area asking everyone she met for any clue about her pet. She eventually accepted that someone else might have found him and given him a new home. Still she clung to a small hope because Cartier had a microchip that could one day lead him back if he visited a vet. The dog weighed around forty four pounds and had become a cherished member of the family after she secretly brought him home from a neighbor as a puppy.

Her parents quickly fell in love with the playful pup too and the bond only grew stronger over time. Sara refused to get another dog partly because she held onto the possibility of his return and partly because she could not bear to go through the pain again. Other animals joined the household but her heart stayed reserved for the one who had disappeared so mysteriously.

Then just days ago while Sara was studying in Milan her mother called in tears with the news she had almost stopped believing could come. The local police force Nordest Vicentino had carried out an operation near a settlement in Sandrigo where stray dogs had been reported. Working alongside veterinary services they rounded up several animals including one that matched Cartier perfectly. His microchip revealed his true identity and connected him straight to the Carlotto family.

Sara jumped on the next train home unable to contain her emotions during the journey. When she arrived at the shelter in Vicenza that evening the tired dog immediately recognized her. He wagged his tail enthusiastically and showed clear signs of joy despite his exhaustion after years away. The reunion melted away the long separation and proved their connection had never truly faded.

Today Cartier lives with Sara once more and she keeps him close at all times. He remains affectionate and energetic yet mostly enjoys long naps which makes him the perfect companion for her student life. She plans to take him back with her to Milan where they can build new memories together. Questions about what happened during those seven years linger but Sara chooses to focus on the present and feels grateful he stayed healthy and cared for.

This touching story highlights the simple power of microchipping pets as the key that finally brought Cartier home. It offers real encouragement for anyone who has ever lost an animal and wondered if hope could prevail after so much time.
