People Are Convinced This Rescue Dog’s Tree-Climbing Skills Are Too Good To Be Real

Most dogs spend their mornings sniffing around the yard or begging for breakfast, but Nola has a very different routine. Every single day, this Treeing Walker Coonhound mix heads straight outside and scales a tree like it is the most natural thing in the world. Her owner, Vanessa Marquette, has watched this unfold so many times that she knows exactly when to grab her phone. And lucky for the rest of us, she does, because the footage is almost impossible to believe.

It all started when Nola kept mysteriously escaping the yard and no one could figure out how. The mystery was solved when a neighbor spotted her launching herself over the chain-link fence with impressive ease. After the fence was replaced, Nola simply adapted and found new spots to practice her skills. When a brand-new fence was installed around the entire yard in 2022, Vanessa says Nola was genuinely excited to have even more surfaces to work with.

In September of that same year, Vanessa filmed one of Nola’s climbing sessions and posted it online. The video exploded with more than 2.7 million views on TikTok, and suddenly the world was introduced to this remarkable dog. That moment inspired Vanessa to create a dedicated account just for Nola’s adventures, which now has over 226,000 followers. Every Friday, fans tune in for Nola’s “Climbs of the Week” across Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, and she somehow manages to outdo herself every single time.

What makes Nola’s story even more special is where she came from. She was once sitting in a kill shelter in North Carolina, overlooked and waiting for a chance that might never come. She eventually made her way to North Country Pet Adoptions in New York, where Vanessa first took her in as a six-month-old foster. Three months later, Vanessa made it official and adopted her, and the rest is internet history.

Nola also happens to be mostly blind in one eye, which makes her athletic feats even more extraordinary. Her sharp problem-solving skills and fearless curiosity shine through every single climb. Vanessa describes her as “Nosey Nola,” always on the lookout for squirrels or anything happening on the other side of the fence. She climbs every morning when she wakes up, heads to the backyard tree first, then makes her rounds regardless of the weather.

The reactions from fans have been nothing short of wild. People are so floored by what Nola can do that some have genuinely questioned whether she is real at all. Vanessa has embraced the humor of it, noting that Nola has become a living, breathing argument for why rescue dogs with unique traits should never be written off. Comments flood in from viewers who say they watched the videos three or four times just to make sure they were seeing things correctly.

Vanessa sees Nola as so much more than a fun TikTok account, though. She hopes Nola’s story challenges people to rethink what a rescue dog is capable of when given love, stability, and a good fence to climb. Nola lives happily alongside her siblings Toby and Sammy, and by all accounts she is thriving. She is proof that sometimes the dog everyone overlooked turns out to be the most extraordinary one of all.

If Nola’s tree-climbing adventures made you smile or left you completely speechless, share your thoughts in the comments.
