This is a topic I've broached several times on Keep the Tail Wagging, but repetition is fun. It reminds me of Max Headroom from the eighties. For those of you who don't know who that is – *sigh* – here is a link to the Max Headroom Wikipedia page. Get some history, People!
When I was a newbie raw feeder, I kept reading about green tripe. The only thing I was certain about was that the white tripe at the grocery store IS NOT what people are talking about. So I put it back on the shelf and went home to Google “green tripe.”
Google Makes Me Feel Like a Moron
I'm not sure if Google didn't work for me or if I just wasn't “googling” the right thing, but I couldn't find where to buy green tripe. Of course, I didn't really understand what green tripe was and I was still ignorant about raw food co-ops. So I'm not surprised.
I am surprised that I didn't realize that I could have added green tripe to my Darwin's order. It's on their website.
Duhhh.
That being said, I thought it would be helpful to add a list (with links) of places where I order green tripe. This isn't a complete list, so I welcome you to add more resources in the comments below.
Where to Buy Green Tripe for Dogs
Just in case you're new to green tripe, let me clue you in on what it is and why I've added it to our dogs' diet.
What is Green Tripe
“Tripe is the stomach of ruminating animals. These animals (i.e. cattle, buffalo, sheep, deer, goats, antelope, etc.) are classified as being four-footed, hooved, cud chewing mamals with a stomach that consists of four chambers. The four chambers of such a stomach are known as the rumen, reticulum, omasum and the abomasum. The food the animal eats (i.e. grass, hay) is swallowed unchewed and passes into the rumen and reticulum where it is then regurgitated, chewed and mixed with saliva. It is again swallowed and then passed through the reticulum and omasum into the abomasum, where it is then further broken down by the gastric juices, amino acids and other digestive enzymes.” ~ GreenTripe.com
Why I Feed Green Tripe to My Dogs
- It's a natural digestive supplement; all the yummy, smelly goodness works to soothe upset stomachs and boost digestive health naturally.
- It offers the perfect, natural source of calcium and fatty acids.
- If fed whole or partially whole, it's great for teeth cleaning and gives the jaw a good workout.

Where can I find raw green tripe in the Montgomery County, Maryland area?
I have been shopping at http://www.happee dawg.com, they have tripe, gizzards, raw dog food , rabbits and more.
Great list! I’ve ordered green tripe from Raw Paws before, and have also seen it on Darwin’s & Raw Feeding Miami. I wish we had a co-op here in NC.
Great list! Can I add a couple more?
K9 Naturals makes a shockingly convenient raw frozen lamb tripe product.l, although it’s a little pricey. It’s just as easy to feed as Instinct Raw Bites or Primal Pronto.
And if you live in or near Texas or Oklahoma, look up Texas Tripe. Roger carries pure tripe and tripe blends, and delivers to a pretty big radius! Prices are great, too.
