I love feeding duck frames to my dogs because I can feed them outside, the dogs love them, they're meaty and the cartilage frame cleans their teeth. On top of all of this, the frames help to satisfy their chew drive while exercising their jaw, neck, and shoulder muscles.

Welcome to Raw Foodie Friday! This week, I fed duck frames to my dogs. It's one of my favorite things to feed my dogs during the summer because the dogs can eat outside, I feed them whole, and the dogs are super mellow all evening after dinnertime.

What are Raw Duck Frames?

Duck frames are the duck carcass and are made of cartilage and a small amount of meat. The duck frames I order through our local raw food co-op are very meaty.

Benefits of Feeding Duck Frames to My Dogs

To be honest, the real reason I feed raw duck frames to my dogs is because it's easy. When I don't feel like doing meal prep, I thaw out a package of duck frames. Easy peasy.

Feeding whole, raw duck frames not only make life easier for me, but the duck frames also have a load of benefits for my dogs:

  • Cleans my dogs' teeth
  • Satisfies my dogs' chew drive
  • Exercises my dogs' jaw, neck, and shoulder muscles
  • It's cleaner since the dogs eat outside

How Many Duck Frames I Feed to My Dogs

When I feed duck frames in a meal, each of my dogs get one duck frame. They're big and meaty so one is all each of my dogs needs. After the dogs finish their duck frames, they get one raw egg each and Scout and Rodrigo also receive two duck necks. I feed Rodrigo more because he has a higher metabolism than the other dogs. Scout receives more because he's larger and more active.

Other times, I may feed a big of raw mince or ground organ meat to the dogs.

Adding Supplements to My Dogs' Raw Meal

I didn't add supplements to this meal because it was a Free Day. I usually add supplements five days a week, at most. You can learn more about the supplements I feed to my dogs on my Supplement Page.

Balancing My Dogs' Raw Food Diet

While I do believe that it's important that we feed our dogs a balanced raw food diet, I also believe that we can balance over time. What I find more important (for me) is gaining a better understanding of what my dogs need in their diet. From here, I am able to make sure that I'm meeting my dogs nutritional needs.
