Answers Pet Food Sues Everybody
“Fleetwood, PA, July 8, 2019. – Lystn, LLC d.b.a./ANSWERS™ Pet Food, announced today that the company has filed a Declaratory Judgment Complaint and is seeking Injunctive Relief against the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), in the United States Colorado District Court. The complaint challenges the lawfulness of the FDA’s actions, with cooperation provided by various members of the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO), by adopting a nationwide, zero tolerance standard for Salmonella in pet food that is noncompliant with federal law, unsupported by science, and beyond the FDA’s scope of power as delegated by Congress.”Read More: Pet Answers Pet Food
What Does This Mean for Pet Parents
While it may sound paranoid, I've noticed a consistent effort to spread fear by promoting myths about raw by the FDA, AAFCO, various Departments of Agriculture, and kibble brands. One common thing we see is the Raw Round-Up, which occurs in the winter of each year when we see recall after recall for salmonella. What confuses me is that they are acting as if raw is so deadly when there have been kibble recalls for salmonella and the FDA completely dropped the ball on the chicken jerky treats years back.
So what is all of this about? Money?
Don't believe me? That's fine. I don't want to believe me either. But it's hard to ignore the impact that our government is having on the raw feeding industry when we're seeing raw food brands close their doors or switch to high-pressure pasteurization (HPP) to avoid being targeted.
Protect Your Right to Feed Fresh
So, what can we do to make sure that the government doesn't step in and take away our choices?
The Next Gen PFMA started a petition to get the ball started. Next Gen PFMA is a non-profit organization that is working hard to educate the government of the value of feeding fresh food while helping brands understand their rights when the FDA knocks on their door.
“Regulators are destroying your freedom of choice by eliminating the option of raw or minimally processed commercial pet food. Your right to purchase and feed raw or minimally processed pet food manufactured by small family and independent companies is being eroded by big business and government.”Next Gen PFMA
Today, I'm writing to ask you to please sign this petition. We need 15,000 signatures and at the time of this email, we've passed 3,000. The only way we're going to be able to protect our right to feed our pets a fresh food diet is to come together and support each other: Sign the Petition
Once the 15,000 signatures are reached, the petition will be presented to the judge who will be presiding over the lawsuit filed by Answers Pet Food, as well as local and national government officials and representatives.
Donation is NOT Required
When you sign the petition, the site will take you to a page and ask for a donation. This donation IS NOT AFFILIATED with Answers Pet Food, FreedomToFeed.org, or Next Gen PFMA. This is simply a donation requested by the site that is hosting the petition. You do not have to donate.
The Next Step
Kohl Harrington of Harrington Films and Pet Fooled, which is available on Amazon, invited me to join his quest to gain information from the FDA. I will be sitting down with a local government representative to ask questions, gain a better understanding of ingredients, and ask why the FDA is breaking their own rules. I will be sharing this journey with you so that you can do the same in your city.
It's Time to Stop the BullS%&$
Over the years, I've noticed an increasing divide within the raw feeding community. It began with the BARF Model and Prey Model raw feeders as we argued over whether our dogs should or should not be fed vegetables. It has grown beyond that tired fight and turned into an all-out war as groups are being created with the sole purpose of trashing other influencers, bloggers, and raw feeding groups. Every week, I receive a message from someone who felt compelled to tell me that they don't like me or my blog, they question why I'm sharing my story, or they think that the way I feed my dogs is wrong.
The government, in partnership with big pet food companies, have been systematically trying to take away our choices when it comes to feeding our pets. They spread myths about raw feeding in order to scare veterinarians, pet parents, and some raw feeders away from feeding a fresh food diet.
It's time that we come together and fight for our pets. With all of the bickering, name-calling, and snide comments – we fail to help the beautiful creatures that brought all of us together. Let's set our differences aside and focus on supporting each other, helping pet parents, and educating our government.
