Keep the Tail Wagging® Introduces the First Annual National Raw Feeding Week

Celebrating and sharing the benefits of raw feeding for pets through social media, blogging, and vlogging.

MARYSVILLE, WAMarch 1, 2018— Keep the Tail Wagging—North America’s leading blog about dog nutrition and raw feeding, has announced the first annual National Raw Feeding Week, April 1-7, 2018, a week when raw feeders around the world unite to share the benefits of raw feeding while clearing up the myths promoted by opponents of feeding biologically appropriate diets to pets.  During this week, raw feeders will be sharing their experiences through social media posts, blog posts, videos, and more.

Kimberly Gauthier, the dog nutrition blogger behind Keep the Tail Wagging®, transitioned her dogs to a raw food diet in 2013 after years of trying to help her dog, Rodrigo.  For the first three years of his life, Rodrigo suffered from chronic loose stool and diarrhea, recurring ear infections, skin rashes, yeasty skin, itchy paws, joint issues, behavioral issues and more.  Rodrigo’s vet couldn’t help and Kimberly realized that dry and canned dog food was part of the problem.

After two weeks of feeding her dogs a partial diet of raw dog food (raw in the morning, kibble in the evening) most of Rodrigo’s health issues cleared up.  Today, five years later, Rodrigo is a healthy, happy, well-behaved dog.  His first vet said that he would live a short life and may need to have a leg amputated.  Rodrigo will be celebrating his eighth birthday and he races around a 5-acre property daily on all four legs.

Raw feeding for dogs is our attempt to replicate the diet of the Grey Wolf, a distant relative of today's dogs – yes, even your Chihuahua.  People who feed raw understand that dogs aren't wolves – they have adapted over the centuries to be our companions and family members.  Raw feeders also understand that the internal makeup of a dog is still very similar to a wolf and therefore their diet is a base of the following:

  • 80% Muscle Meat
  • 10% Bone
  • 5% Liver
  • 5% Offal (secreting organs like kidneys, spleen, pancreas, and testicles)

Each dog’s diet is adjusted based on the dog’s individual needs and may include whole food supplements to account for nutrients not found in the meat and bone.

“Raw feeding is biologically appropriate for dogs and the reason it worked so well for Rodrigo is that he was no longer on a diet that promoting an inflammatory reaction in his system that suppressed his digestive health, his immune system, and more.” ~ Kimberly Gauthier, Dog Nutrition Blogger

In addition, to curing Rodrigo’s health issues, feeding a species appropriate diet of raw and fresh food also provided the following benefits:

  • healthy skin and shiny coat
  • clean, white teeth
  • fresh breath
  • healthy digestive system
  • stronger immune system
  • decreased allergies
  • healthy body weight and muscle mass
  • no doggy odor
  • smaller, less smelly poop
  • fewer vet visits
